KidSport Day
September 18, 2009, is not only the first day of Alberta Arts Days, it's also the first ever KidSport Day. KidSport is a national, not-for-profit organization that helps children overcome financial barriers to playing organized sport. KidSport Day is a new provincial initiative hosted by Kidsport Alberta and Athletics Alberta, funded by Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation. Students aged 6-12 years will take part in a sports FUNdamentals program focused on the transferable physical skills of running, jumping and throwing. Kidsport believes that all children deserve the opportunity to simply enjoy being a kid, and that sport participation is integral to a child's self-esteem and sense of worth.
