Government House Foundation

Since 1976, Government House Foundation nurtures the historical significance of the Alberta Government House by collecting, preserving and exhibiting authentic furnishings, library material and original works of art.

The collections define and record the historical and cultural legacy of Alberta. The collections showcase the lives and environment of the people of Alberta by many notable Albertan and Canadian artists.

The Board of Directors consists of up to 12 directors appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council. The board reports to the Minister of Culture. Each member has a keen interest in preserving the facility and showcasing period artwork and furnishings.

Objectives

  • Advise the Minister on the preservation of Government House as a historic site and building
  • Inform and stimulate the interest of the public in the historical and architectural development of Government House
  • Solicit and receive, by gift, bequest, devise, transfer or otherwise, any personal property for use or display in Government House
