Roger Soderstrom Scholarship

This scholarship honours the late Roger Soderstrom's work and career with the Government of Alberta, encouraging preservation and interpretation of Alberta's heritage.

An individual is limited to one award per degree program. The maximum award per application is $10,000.

Annual Application Deadlines

  • First working day of February (funding decision released in June or July)
  • First working day of October (funding decision released in December or January)

Guidelines and Application Form

Eligibility

The applicant must be a permanent Alberta resident enrolled in a graduate or extended study program with proposed research at that level in the fields of:

  • Architectural preservation
  • Urban or area planning and conservation
  • Historic resource management
  • Archaeology
  • History
  • Palaeontology

Application Requirements

The application must include the Roger Soderstrom Scholarship Application Form research plan and project budget. For a complete list of application requirements, refer to the application form.

Assessment

The application will be assessed on a number factors which include:
  • Quality of the research plan
  • Benefits to Albertans
  • Experience/qualifications of the applicant

The level of funding will further be determined based on the grant program’s budget, the project’s individual merit and in comparison with the other projects.

Payment of Funds and Reporting Requirements

Funds will be paid to the scholarship recipient once the approval process is complete.

The recipient is asked to submit a final report on the outcomes of the project and a copy of the end product (thesis, dissertation, manuscript, research report) within three years from date of notification.
