Historic Places Research & Designation
The Historic Places Research and Designation Program manages a number of programs that document, evaluate, protect, and interpret Alberta’s history and heritage.
Alberta Geographical Names Program
Researches and evaluates geographical naming proposals, maintains records and increases public knowledge of place names
Alberta Heritage Markers Program
Develops interpretive signs that promote awareness of the historic people, places, events and themes that have defined the character of Alberta
Alberta Heritage Survey Program
Collects and manages information about historic period structures and other resource types to support the evaluation, protection and management functions of Alberta Culture and Tourism’s various heritage programs
Alberta Historic Places Designation Program
Evaluates and designates historic resources of provincial significance and maintains the Alberta Register of Historic Places
