The following provides an overview of some of the key activities and initiatives Minister Blackett has undertaken and/or participated in.
Address to delegates at 2011 CASHRA Banquet
Alberta is growing in its diversity and addressing the new realities of human rights in our province was the focus of the annual conference of the Canadian Association of Statutory Human Rights Agencies (CASHRA) held in Calgary June 13-16. Culture and Community Spirit Minister Lindsay Blackett addressed delegates at the conference banquet outlining Alberta's commitment to human rights.
Mission to Los Angeles
The Los Angeles market is a key contributor to the ongoing sustainability and growth of the film, television and digital media industry in our province. In January 2011, Minister Blackett headed a four-day marketing venture to L.A. to promote the advantages of filming in Alberta. Read the Minister's blog posting summarizing the trip.
Regional Dialogue Sessions
Alberta Culture and Community Spirit has several open channels of communication in which to obtain feedback and advice from Albertans and key stakeholders; and collaborate on emerging issues and opportunities. Among them are the Minister's Regional Dialogue Sessions.
Since December 2009, Minister Blackett has been touring the province meeting with representatives of Alberta's nonprofit and arts sectors to discuss challenges, opportunities and best practices. During the first round of dialogue sessions, the Minister traveled to six communities and met with over 300 sector representatives. More than 350 Albertans also provided feedback online.
During the second round of dialogue sessions, the Minister returned to each of the communities he visited initially to follow up on progress made and discuss new opportunities. Two communities were added to the second tour for a total of eight community visits. 353 sector representatives participated in the community meetings and 46 provided feedback online.

Alberta 3D Workshop and Banff World Television Festival / nextMEDIA 2010
Minister Blackett attended the Alberta 3D Workshop presented by the Alberta Creative Hub on June 12, 2010. Following the workshop, the Minister attended the 31st annual Banff World Television Festival / nextMEDIA event from June 13 to 16, 2010.
