Government Records Program

The Provincial Archives of Alberta houses the records of the Government of Alberta, its corporations, agencies, boards, commissions and courts that are of enduring value to the institutions and citizens of the province.

The Provincial Archives’ Government Records program is part of the government-wide records and information management program. Records are transferred to the Provincial Archives through records schedules that have been appraised by Government Records Archivists. Government of Alberta records schedules are approved by the Alberta Records Management Committee.

After public records are transferred to the Provincial Archives, Government Records Archivists describe them according to the national archival descriptive standard, the Rules for Archival Description.

Members of the general public with inquiries about government records should contact The Sandra Thomson Reading Room of the Provincial Archives of Alberta. Government of Alberta requests for information can be made to the Government Records Archivist.
