YOUTH CATEGORY

Chris Clark    

Chris Clark - Red Deer

Nominated by Darci Shave and Grant Stange, Red Deer Regional Hospital Volunteer Resource Department

Chris Clark is a junior volunteer with the Red Deer Regional Hospital Emergency Department and volunteer Sergeant with St. John Ambulance Division 1012 Red Deer Crusader Division. Clark plans to complete his EMT-A and Paramedic training. Clark is dedicated to volunteerism for the betterment of his community and has a genuine interest in the well being of others.

 

Leo Wong    

Leo Wong - Edmonton

Leo Wong is a founder and leader in Youth One, a program of the Support Network. Youth One is an online youth community where young people can communicate, volunteer and feel like they are making a difference. Youth One provides peer support and crisis chat. Wong is currently attending the University of Alberta and has been volunteering since the age of 13. Wong is a leader for youth by giving them a vision to identify with and by supporting their involvement in that vision of improving the community in which they live.

Robert Lang    

Robert Lang - Calgary

Nominated by Harvey Cenaiko, MLA for Calgary-Buffalo and Winston Blake, Peer Mediation Program

Robert Lang volunteers his time as President of Community Mediation Calgary Society and President of the Inner City Coalition of Calgary Society. He is also a Founding member of the Inner City Community Life Council and Chair of the Inner City Resource Network, to name a few. Lang has worked in the petroleum industry for 37 years and is an independent Petroleum Consultant, but spends a great deal of his spare time volunteering for the betterment of his community.

 

Barbara Wade    

Barbara Wade -Vulcan

Nominated by Shirley White, Community Member

Barbara Wade has spearheaded a number of initiatives that have change the face of her community. Wade established a playschool and a fitness center; annually chaired a triathlon hosting over 1,000 competitors; designed a water park/swimming pool renovation; initiated a Community Foundation; and produced a County-wide interpretive science network along with a host of other community volunteer initiatives. To quote Grade 9 student Keegan Shaw of Vulcan, "I am really glad Mrs. Wade lives in my community. She has made this community a better place to live."

James Hogg    

James Hogg -Medicine Hat

Nominated by Doug Heine and Sherry Tisnic, City of Medicine Hat

James Hogg volunteers with Senior Services operated by the City of Medicine Hat, is the President of the Cardiac Support Association, volunteers with the Alberta Council on Aging and has tirelessly donated countless volunteer hours at the provincial and local levels in a variety of different initiatives and causes for almost 50 years. Hogg runs his own land surveyor and consulting engineer firm, which he established in 1956.

 

Ruth Kidder    

Ruth Kidder - Peace River

Nominated by Debra Schapansky, Friend

Ruth Kidder volunteers four to six hours a day as the President of the Alberta Aboriginal Women's Society. Kidder also volunteers with the Metis Nation of Alberta, the Metis Nation Local, and the Native Women's Association of Canada. Kidder has been a committed member of her community for many years and has served on over half a dozen boards involved in Aboriginal issues. Kidder is legally blind and is an inspiration to others because of her pride in her heritage and culture, and her never-ending selfless giving to help others.
